Qatar Offers To Buy Anti-Semitic, Israel Newspaper Haaretz

A cartoon from Qatar, Hamas, AlQaeda or ISIS?

Israel News Agency

Jerusalem, Israel — October 31, 2014 … Reliable sources in the Israel government have revealed that a commercial media group in Qatar have offered to buy the Israel newspaper Haaretz.

“Haaretz publisher Amos Schoken was allegedly approached in the last month and was offered  a lot of cash for the newspaper,” said the source. “The businessmen from Qatar who made the offer in Europe were heard saying: ‘Why should we attack the Zionists when they can destroy themselves?'”

Haaretz, which has a long, documented track record of attacking Israelis, published an editorial cartoon this week evoking the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York.

The cartoon, by Amos Biderman of Haaretz, shows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the controls of an aircraft headed for a building topped by an American flag. The plane says “ISRAEL” on the side.

“The message is that Bibi is arrogantly and wantonly destroying Israel’s ties with the US and leading us to a disaster on the scale of 9/11,” Biderman explained in a tweet in Hebrew, according to Haaretz.

The cartoon was published amid attacks by the White House in which an unnamed US official reportedly called Netanyahu “chickenshit.” for not weakening Israel’s security.

Israelis were enraged with the cartoon but the hatred displayed by Haaretz towards Israel transcended Jerusalem. It directly attacked every Jew from Tel Aviv and London to Paris and New York.

The US based Anti-Defamation League demanded an apology.

“The cartoon in question is offensive on many levels,” said ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman. “Not only does it completely misrepresent any tensions which may currently exist between the U.S. government and Mr. Netanyahu, it disrespects the memories of thousands of innocent Americans and others who tragically perished on 9/11, and the deep pain and trauma caused by the horrific attacks.”

Foxman added that the cartoon feeds conspiracy theories about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, which were carried out by al Qaeda terrorists.

Foxman continued: “Furthermore, as anti-Semitic conspiracy theories charging that Israel and/or Jews were behind the attacks are still believed by large swaths of the Muslim world, it is particularly jarring and incredibility irresponsible that an Israeli newspaper, especially one whose journalistic standards are widely respected, would resort to publishing such a highly offensive stereotype in the name of political satire.”

Ruthie Blum of Israel Today commented:

“On Thursday, Haaretz published a political cartoon that caused a backlash the likes of which make the “chickenshit” story pale in comparison. The cartoon depicts Netanyahu flying a plane into the World Trade Center. Not only is it vile in and of itself, but the fact that it appeared while Rabbi Glick remained in critical condition at Shaare Zedek hospital after an assassination attempt made it all the more repugnant.

To add insult to injury, cartoonist Amos Biderman defended his drawing.

“It was certainly not my intention to insult or upset anyone. I wasn’t sufficiently aware of the great sensitivity that 9/11 holds for Americans.”

Really. I guess he was equally unaware of the “great sensitivity” that anti-Semitic imagery holds for Jews everywhere. Apparently, he and his Haaretz cohorts are so insulated by their bubble of chattering-class respectability that they do not notice when they have gone too far.”

Blum asks: “How do you say “shitstorm” in Hebrew?”

Israeli Foreign Ministry official Paul Hirschson remarked on Twitter that the cartoon was “gutter press.”

If Qatar does buy Haaretz, one should expect greater circulation of the newspaper in Turkey, Syria, Iran and Saudi Arabia with members of ISIS, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and AlQaeda signing up with discounted, Groupon online subscriptions.

Obama Calls Netanyahu “Chickenshit” – Lacks Proper Arab Cursewords

Israel News Agency

Washington — October 29, 2014 … From Ebola, Benghazi, Obamacare, the IRS, ISIS to finding the right curse words to call Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Obama just can’t get it right!

Reporter Jeffrey Goldberg has quoted an anonymous Obama Administration official as calling Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu a “chickenshit” because Bibi refuses to weaken Israel’s security.

The real issue here is not the relationship between Netanyahu and Obama.
We all know that they hate one another.

The real challenge in this story is finding a newspaper editor in Israel who can find a proper translation of chicken shit into Hebrew.

We kindly suggest to the White House that the next time they decide to throw derogatory names at Bibi, they consult with their friends in Qatar who can provide them with some very effective and powerful Arabic curse words.

That would be something Netanyahu and the Israeli public could easily understand and might even get them a little upset.

RJC: Dangerous Escalation in Obama Hostility Toward Israel

obama_hates_netanyahu
By Israel News Agency Staff

Washington, D.C. — October 28, 2014 … The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) responded to several troubling expressions of hostility toward Israel coming from the Obama administration in recent days.

These included a snub towards Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon. The White House denied him meetings with Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry and National Security Adviser Susan Rice.

Jeffrey Goldberg, diplomatic correspondent for The Atlantic, reported today that he recently spoke to a senior Obama administration official about, “the foreign leader who seems to frustrate the White House and the State Department the most.

“The unnamed official told Goldberg: “The thing about Bibi is, he’s a chickenshit.”

“Last week, the Obama administration went out of its way to ‘humiliate’ a top Israeli official in retaliation for private remarks for which that official had publicly apologized,” said RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks.

“Yesterday, the State Department accused the Netanyahu government of lacking a commitment to peace because it had the temerity to authorize housing construction in the capital of Israel. And today, top aides to the president attacked Israel’s Prime Minister in coarse, insulting language from behind the veil of anonymity.

“Americans expect their commander-in-chief to keep faith with critical allies in perilous times. This administration is dangerously off-course and its apparent determination to provoke a crisis in US-Israel relations is the latest disastrous evidence.”

Obama, rather than supporting Israel’s historical, biblical and legal right to Jerusalem, appears to side with ISIS, Hamas, Al Qaeda and Islamic Jihad – creating doubt as to the true roots of Jerusalem.

Netanyahu noted that Obama and his staff could do themselves a favor by learning the facts before commenting.

“I think they (the Obama administration) should be acquainted with the facts first. You know? First of all, these are not settlements. These are neighborhoods of Jerusalem. We have Arab neighborhoods and we have Jewish neighborhoods.”

Netanyahu said that the Obama Administration’s position was discriminatory against Jews, and that he could not adopt such policies.

“Arabs in Jerusalem freely buy apartments, and nobody says that is forbidden. I will also not say that Jews cannot buy property in Jerusalem. There cannot be discrimination between Jews and Arabs,” insisted the prime minister.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat voiced similar sentiments. In a statement released by his office, Barkat said adamantly: “Discrimination based on religion, race or gender is illegal in the United States and in any other civilized country. The 2,600 apartments in Givat Hamatos, which we [first] approved two years ago, will enable more young people from all communities and religions to live in Jerusalem and build their future here, thereby strengthening the capital of Israel. We will not apologize for that.”

Obama can delete the words “Islam” and “Jihad” from the training manuals of the FBI, but he will never delete the word Jewish from Jerusalem.

One must ask if Obama’s obsessive criticism creates unity or encourages terrorism against Jews and Christians in Israel?
Is Obama and the Democratic Party of the US allies or enemies to the State of Israel?

“We urge pro-Israel Americans to register their reservations about President Obama’s naïve and petty foreign policy next week by supporting Republican candidates and electing a Congress that will stand up to him,” said Brooks.

Israel: Obama, EU Encourage Terrorism In Jerusalem

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

Jerusalem, Israel — October 28, 2014 … Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel for over 3,000 years. Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Jewish citizens he represents didn’t just create this fact. In 1000 BCE – King David conquered Jerusalem and declared the city the Capital of the Jewish Kingdom.

Fast forward – there was a war in 1967. Israel recaptured all of Jerusalem. Under international law Jerusalem is not occupied. It is not only indigenous to the Jewish people, Jerusalem was built by the Jewish people!

So why would US State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki say that plans for new projects in Jerusalem were “incompatible with the pursuit of peace.” And Maja Kocijancic, a spokeswoman for outgoing EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, describe the move “once again” calls into question Israel’s commitment “to a negotiated solution with the Palestinians.”

Netanyahu responded that Israel would continue to build new ports, pave roads, lay rail road tracks and “continue to build in our eternal capital.”

“I heard the claim that our building in Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem makes peace more distant, but it is the criticism itself that makes peace more distant,” Netanyahu said of criticism that poured in following his announcement of plans to develop 660 more units in Ramot Shlomo in the northern part of the city and 400 in the southern neighborhood of Har Homa.

This criticism, Netanyahu said, is “detached from reality” and feeds false Palestinian hopes.

What Netanyahu did not say today was that the conflict over Jerusalem is not about land. It is about Islamic Jihad (holy war) and removing all Jews and Christians (Infidels) from the Holy Land. And one has to smile at this fact given that Jerusalem is not mentioned even once in the Quran.

Netanyahu said the international community remains quiet when Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas “incites to the murder of Jews in Jerusalem,” but strongly condemns Israel when it builds in Jerusalem. The murder of a 3-month-old Jewish American baby by Hamas last week did not warrant comment by the US State Department but natural growth of Jerusalem becomes a flash point.

“I don’t accept that double standard,” says Netanyahu. “We built in Jerusalem, we build in Jerusalem, and we will continue to build in Jerusalem.”

Only under free, democratic, Jewish rule is there today religious freedom to pray as a Jew, Christian or Muslim in Jerusalem. Can Jews or Christians pray in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran or Syria?

Jen Psaki directly represents Obama. And rather than supporting Israel’s historical, biblical and legal right to Jerusalem, Obama sides with ISIS, Hamas, Al Qaeda and Islamic Jihad – creating doubt as to the true roots of Jerusalem.

One must ask if Obama’s obsessive criticism creates unity or encourages terrorism against Jews and Christians in Israel?
Is Obama and the Democratic Party of the US allies or enemies to the State of Israel?

On Tuesday, November 4th, the American public can respond at the voting booth.

Jewish Agency Provides 50 Million NIS Aid Package to Southern Israel Residents

Southern Israel suffered thousands of missile attacks

By Herb Brandon
Israel News Agency

Ashkelon, Israel — October 26 … The Jewish Agency for Israel has created a 50 million NIS ($13.22 million) aid package to help the communities of Israel’s south recover from this summer’s hostilities. The monies are contributions coming from several sources including the Jewish Federations of North America and Keren Kayesod-UIA.

The emergency aid package includes a series of programs aimed at enabling the communities of southern Israel, particularly those closest to the border with Gaza, to expand their population bases and support a range of groups with an investment of NIS 25 million. It also includes NIS 25 million worth of aid extended to the residents of the South during the summer’s hostilities.

The Jewish world’s support for southern Israel will be at the center of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors’ meetings, taking place this week (SundayTuesday) in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon and the surrounding area.

Hundreds of Jewish leaders are participating in the gathering, which is being led by Chairman of the Board of Governors Charles (Chuck) Ratner and Chairman of the Executive Natan Sharansky. The gathering had been scheduled to take place in Mexico but was moved to southern Israel as an expression of support for the region’s residents following their difficult summer.

Opening the gathering, Sharansky thanked The Jewish Agency’s partners in the Jewish world.

“This is a continuation of the Jewish world’s massive outpouring of solidarity with the people of Israel and the residents of the South over the course of the summer. The Jewish Agency built southern Israel, helping the early pioneers establish these towns and communities in the country’s early years. During the war, we stood with the residents and channeled the solidarity and support of world Jewry. Today, we are partnering with the Government of Israel to ensure that this pioneering spirit endures well into the future, drawing ever more people to this area and keeping it strong and vibrant for many years to come. This is the Zionist response to this summer’s events, and it is an expression of our commitment to the residents of southern Israel.”

Maj. Gen. Shlomo (Sami) Turgeman, GOC of the IDF Southern Command, addressed the Board of Governors at Kibbutz Nahal Oz, one of the Israeli communities nearest to the Gaza border: “We are fighting for our homes here. Your decision to hold the Jewish Agency Board of Governors’ meetings in southern Israel after Operation Protective Edge is a massive source of strength for me personally and for the soldiers under my command.”

The aid package being developed includes scholarships for local students, assistance to local businesses, grants for victims of Hamas terror rocket attacks, the construction of bomb shelters, and support for new immigrants and IDF lone soldiers. These initiatives join a range of programs run by The Jewish Agency during the summer’s hostilities, including taking some 75,000 children and teenagers for recreational activities outside the line of fire, thanks to contributions from the Jewish Federations of North America, Keren Hayesod-UIA, and other donors.

In the coming days, The Jewish Agency will present some 1,300 students within four kilometers (roughly 2.5 miles) of the Gaza border with scholarships aimed at offsetting the cost of rent and drawing young people to the area. The scholarships, funded by the Jewish Federations of North America and individual Jewish Federations, will be awarded to students studying at one of the academic institutions in the area or residing in the region. Each student will be provided with a scholarship of more than NIS 5,700 ($1,500).

The aid package will also seek to strengthen and rescue small and medium-sized businesses whose operations were adversely affected by the rocket fire. The Jewish Agency will run a special loan fund with favorable rates for businesses within 40 kilometers (25 miles) of Gaza, as well as for businesses from throughout southern Israel in the tourism, service, and commercial sectors.

In addition, private bomb shelters throughout southern Israel will be refurbished via The Jewish Agency’s sheltered housing subsidiary, Amigour, which has built thousands of shelters in Sderot and other southern Israeli communities in recent years. The project will be fully coordinated with the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Defense.

The Jewish Agency will also provide support to various groups, including new immigrants residing in Jewish Agency absorption centers in southern Israel and IDF lone soldiers wounded during Operation Protective Edge.

The Jewish Agency’s Fund for Victims of Terror has been extending financial aid to families who experienced injury or loss as a result of the summer’s hostilities and whose homes were damaged by rocket fire. The NIS 4,000 grant is presented to each family immediately after the incident in order to enable the family to address its most immediate needs. In addition to the immediate assistance, the Fund provides supplemental aid of up to NIS 25,000 ($6,600) to families recognized as victims of terror by the Government of Israel.

In the wake of this summer’s hostilities, The Jewish Agency has also increased its efforts to connect young Jews to Israel via the hundreds of Jewish Agency shlichim (emissaries) posted around the world and by boosting the number of Jewish Agency Israel Fellows (young Israeli college graduates posted on North American college campuses in partnership with Hillel).

The Jewish Agency was instrumental in founding and building the State of Israel and continues to serve as the main link between the Jewish state and Jewish communities everywhere.  They connect the global Jewish family, bringing Jews to Israel, and Israel to Jews, by providing meaningful Israel engagement and facilitating Aliyah. The Jewish Agency continues to be the Jewish world’s first responder, prepared to address emergencies in Israel, and to rescue Jews from countries where they are at risk.

Israel Defense Minister Yaalon: Obama Mid-East Policies Dangerous To US

DEFENSE MINISTER YAALON MEETS WITH US COUNTERPART DEMPSEY
The Pentagon wants to defend the US
but has hands tied by the Obama White House.

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

Jerusalem — October 26, 2014 … From Ebola to ISIS, it appears that almost every issue which is handled by President Barack Obama turns into total disaster.

Obama’s policies with regard to the Middle East are either coming from a place of ignorance, negligence or just plain bias to the global Islamic agenda. For US Secretary of State John Kerry to draw a direct relationship between stability in the Middle East and the Israel Palestine peace process illustrates one of many dangerous and misleading assertions by the White House.

If one thinks that Israel is suffering from Obama’s blind and destructive approach to the Middle East, we must convey our condolences to the Pentagon. The US Department of Defense and all other US security organizations are on the same page with democratic Israel. Their frustration level with the White House could not be greater. And if one thinks that Obama’s snub to the Israel’s Minister of Defence Moshe Yaalon is embarrassing and counter-productive, how about the many from the Pentagon, CIA and NSA that Obama snubs or politely meets with and then dismisses with hours of golf?

The Israeli newspaper Ynet first reported Friday that when he was in Washington last week, Ya’alon had requested meetings with US Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry and National Security Adviser Susan Rice, but was rejected by all three.

Obama’s ego – is it taking precedence to US national security?

In a recent interview with the Washington Post, Ya’alon responded to Obama’s assertion that Israel Palestinian relations were the cause of conflict in the Middle East.

“Unfortunately, we find the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is dominated by too many misconceptions. We don’t find any linkage between the uprising in Tunisia, the revolution in Egypt, the sectarian conflict in Iraq and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Mainly, these come from the Sunni-Shia conflict, without any connection to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

It appears that the US White House has something in common with Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. When you have problems at home, just divert global media attention to the “Israel-Palestinian” conflict!

axe_terror_attacks
Did Obama’s failed policy in the Middle East
produce terrorism in the US?

How stupid does Obama think the global media are?

Our last comment would be a question to Barack Obama.
Do you really think that you can humiliate the Israeli defense minister?
Not quite. Moshe Yaalon is a bit more concerned with Iran developing nuclear weapons which will threaten Europe and the US than his golf game.

Moshe Yaalon would never had ignored an Ambassador’s request for more security in a place called Benghazi.
Moshe Yaalon would never had allowed ISIS to survive long enough to coordinate lone wolf Islamic terror attacks on US soil.

Israel: Mahmoud Abbas Responsible For Jerusalem Terror Attack Murder of Baby

Israel News Agency

Jerusalem, Israel — October 23, 2014 … Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened today a security consultation with the participation of Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch, Israel Police Commissioner Insp.-Gen. Yohanan Danino, ISA Director Yoram Cohen, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and Jerusalem District Police Commander Moshe Edri at Israel Police headquarters in Jerusalem.

Prime Minister Netanyahu was briefed on last night’s vehicular terrorist attack in Jerusalem and on the disturbances that have occurred in Jerusalem in recent months. Netanyahu directed that sovereignty be asserted in all parts of Jerusalem via the stationing of additional security forces throughout the city.

Prime Minister Netanyahu met with the Jerusalem District police officer who shot the Islamic terrorist and asked to send his condolences to the family of three-month-old Chaya Zissel Braun who was murdered in the attack.

chayabraun_western_wall
This picture was taken at the Kotel (Western Wall) where her parents were
praying just hours before her life was tragically cut short by a terror attack.

“On behalf of the entire nation, I send condolences to the family of this pure baby and my wishes for a quick and full recovery to those who were wounded.”

Prime Minister Netanyahu added: “United Jerusalem was – and will remain – Israel’s eternal capital.

All attempts to attack its residents will be met with a very sharp reaction; we will restore quiet and security to Jerusalem. To this end I have directed that reinforcements be brought in, including additional Border Police (MAGAV) units, which are moving in today, as well as with lookouts, intelligence and enforcement measures. These, along with other steps that I will not detail here, can and will restore quiet to the capital.

I rely on the people sitting here. We will support the Israel Police and give it whatever reinforcements and capabilities it needs to carry out this mission. We have proven that with determination and patience we can achieve these goals in all parts of the State of Israel.

Not only is Jerusalem under terrorist attack but other capitals and cities around the world are as well. But the attacks in Jerusalem are supported by Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen, who both extols the murderers and embraces the organization that the terrorists belong to, Hamas. And against these actions by the Palestinian Authority Chairman, we find international weakness; they are not prepared to utter so much as a word of criticism against him. We have no such weakness. We will insist on our rights and on our obligation to defend our capital. We will do strongly – and we will win.”

chaya_funeral
Friends and relatives attend the funeral of Haya Zissel Braun, the infant that
was
murdered in a terror attack at the Jerusalem light rail station.

All the Obama Administration had to say was: “we urge all sides to maintain calm and avoid escalating tensions in the wake of this incident.”

It seems to this author that only one side in this conflict – Hamas and the Palestinian Authority – sees fit to ram a car into a baby stroller.

Death of Klinghoffer Is Your Problem, I’m Not Jewish!

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

New York — October 21, 2014 … Over 4,000 people attended a demonstration yesterday against the “Death of Klinghoffer” opera in New York City. Many were Jewish, some were Christian. All were angry.

They all had one objective – to illustrate that this opera about a 69-year-old wheelchair-bound man, who was shot in the head by Palestinian terrorists on the Achille Lauro cruise ship in 1985 was an act of terror – not art.

After hearing former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani discuss the First Amendment and how it also applied to the protesters, listening to several other speeches by the organizers and local politicians, I walked over to the maze, gate secured entrance to look at the faces of those attending the opera.

Standing at this new, makeshift, NYPD secured entrance to the New York Metropolitan Opera House were two protesters. One held a sign: “The Met glorifies terrorism” while the other held another sign: “Terrorism is not art”.

The graying, fiftyish year-old man who used to work at the Met, was Christian. The middle aged woman was Jewish. They greeted all of the well dressed, incoming audience with a “hope you enjoy the racist show” and “will you come to an opera on ISIS?”

Many of those arriving to see the premiere of The Death of Klinghoffer had no idea that there was a protest on this dark, chilly evening. They missed over a hundred wheelchairs with participants wearing signs from their necks “I am Leon Klinghoffer”, they missed the chants, they missed the speeches, they missed the anger, they missed the tears falling from the eyes of terror victims.

A few were stopped by local and national media TV cameras for interviews. A few responded to the protesters greeting them.

One well dressed man in a tuxedo, as he passed the police who just checked his ticket shouted out: “I’m not Jewish, Klinghoffer is your problem.” A woman a few minutes later smiled and responded that the opera was “just fantasy” no one was getting hurt.”

The ignorance could not be more transparent, blatant. And this was New York City.

Yassar Arafat had ordered the murder of Jewish, businessman Leon Klinghoffer. This act of terror had nothing to do with an oppressed people. Nothing to do with human rights. But everything to do with furthering the goals of a very self centered and corrupt Palestine Liberation Organization. An organization which romanticized Palestinian terror, received millions of dollars in aid as such which then wound up in the personal bank account of Yasser Arafat and today keeps his wife Suha comfortable in the south of France.

The daughters of Leon Klinghoffer had begged the Met to cancel the show. And the ADL appeared on CNN today stating that their comments truly summed up the entire situation.

“The four terrorists responsible for his murder will be humanized by distinguished opera singers and given a back story, an ‘explanation’ for their brutal act of terror and violence. Opera-goers will see and hear a musical examination of terrorism, the Holocaust and Palestinian claims of dispossession — all in fewer than three hours,” said daughters Lisa and Ilsa Klinghoffer.

“Our father was one of the first American victims of Middle Eastern terrorism. Today with the memory of 9/11, the reality of al-Qaida and ISIS, and countless other attacks and threats, Americans live under the deadly threat of terrorism each and every day.

Terrorism is irrational. It should never be explained away or justified. Nor should the death of innocent civilians be misunderstood as an acceptable means for drawing attention to perceived political grievances. Unfortunately, ‘The Death of Klinghoffer’ does all of this and sullies the memory of our father in the process.”

The Death of Klinghoffer protest organizers were many.
They included AFSI, ZOA, JCC Watch, Mother’s Against Terrorism, Strength to Strength, and Stand With Us. They did a brilliant job coordinating this critical effort to educate the Met, New York and a global audience that one cannot use terrorism as an art form.

But their work is far from finished.

The Nazis used “culture” and “art” to soften up, confuse and eventually brainwash a very intelligent and sophisticated German nation. ISIS, Hamas, Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Qatar, Turkey and Islamic Jihad are today employing the same tactics. Their YouTube videos and social media campaigns are as professional as anything you will find in Hollywood.

As thousands today are being slaughtered for being an Infidel – Christian, Shaitat, Kurd or Yazidis in Africa, Syria, Iraq, Iran and throughout the Muslim world, to hear a naive New Yorker say: “I’m not Jewish, it’s your problem” brings a tear to us all.

You can’t fix a problem if you don’t know that there is a problem.
One just has to ask the 13 million who perished in the Holocaust.

Thousands In New York To Protest Death of Klinghoffer Opera

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

New York — October 20, 2014 … Over five thousand Jews and Christians are expected to turn out for a demonstration today against the opening of “The Death of Klinghoffer” Opera at New York’s Lincoln Center.

On Oct. 8, 1985, 69-year-old wheelchair-bound Leon Klinghoffer, was shot in the head by Palestinian hijackers on the Achille Lauro cruise ship. The terrorists brutally and unceremoniously threw his body and wheelchair overboard into the Mediterranean. His body washed up on the Syrian shore a few days later.

Nor should the death of innocent civilians be misunderstood as an acceptable means for drawing attention to perceived political grievances. Unfortunately, ‘The Death of Klinghoffer’ does all of this and sullies the memory of our father in the process.”

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani will lead a press conference followed by a demonstration outside of the opening of “The Death of Klinghoffer” which is expected to premier at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center on Monday evening, October 20 at 5:00 PM.

Additional confirmed participants include Congressman Peter King, Former NY Governor David Paterson, Criminal Defense Attorney Ben Brafman, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, and Rabbi Joseph Potasnik.

Giuliani famously expelled Yasir Arafat from a concert for world leaders at Lincoln Center in 1995, explaining he could never forgive Arafat’s acts of terror.  As the Mayor famously said, “I would not invite Yasir Arafat to anything, anywhere, anytime, anyplace. He has never been held to answer for the murders that he was implicated in.”

Following the press conference, a coalition of organizations will gather, as thousands are expected to raise a voice of outrage against this opera which promotes terrorism and anti-Semitism.

Rabbi Avi Weiss and a group of Rabbinical leaders will hold a fast and prayer and vigil across from the Met beginning at 12:00 PM in memory of Leon Klinghoffer’s soul, being desecrated by the opera.

This is the continuation of a series of efforts opposing Lincoln Center’s decision to air this play.

There will be a press conference at Lincoln Center on Monday evening, October 20th at 5:00 PM, across the street from the Lincoln Center Plaza at Broadway & 65th Street to protest the first evening that “The Death of Klinghoffer” will be shown at the Metropolitan Opera.

The threat of protests has created fears that the scene could explode into chaos or violence, Met director Peter Gelb said.

“It’s been a steady diet of e-mails, phone calls and letters for a couple of months now,” Gelb told the Sunday Times of London. “The people who don’t want this opera to be performed are not silly; they are very angry.”

The opera features anti-Semitic language and at times tells the story from the terrorists’ perspective.

One aria in the show declares: “You are always complaining of your suffering, but wherever poor men are gathered they can find Jews getting fat.”

Protesters plan to set up 100 wheelchairs at the base of the entrance to the Met while wearing signs that proclaim, “I am Leon Klinghoffer,” said organizer Jeffrey Wiesenfeld.

“This opera is not just anti- Semitic but there is gratuitous anti-Semitism that is repeated and repeated,” Wiesenfeld slammed. “This is a game-changer.”

Protestors will hold American flags and have wheelchairs to illustrate the plight of 69-year old New-Yorker Leon Klinghoffer, who was killed by terrorists of the Palestine Liberation Front (PFLF).  Sponsoring organizations include the Simon Wiesenthal Center,  Jewish War Veterans of the US, Zionist Organization of America, AFSI, AMCHA, Israel News Agency, Catholic League, Christians’ Israel Public Action Campaign (CIPAC), Congregation Ohab Zedek, Edmond J. Safra Synagogue, Lincoln Square Synagogue, RAJE, One Israel Fund, Stand With Us, Strength to Strength, Westchester High School.

Israel Vs. Ebola

Israel News Agency

Jerusalem, Israel — October 12, 2014 … Part of the following was communicated by the Prime Minister’s Office to the Israel News Agency.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this morning convened a discussion on the spread of the Ebola virus, in continuation of a similar discussion held last Monday, 6 October. At today’s meeting in Jerusalem it was decided to emphasize the questioning of travelers arriving in Israel from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, who are most at risk.

The questioning will be carried out at air, land and sea entry points into Israel. This will be in addition to the information signs (in Hebrew, English, French and Arabic) posted at the entry points.

Participating in today’s discussion were representatives of the Israel Health, Transportation and Road Safety, Interior, Foreign Affairs and Justice ministries, as well as from the Airports Authority, the Israel Police and the IDF.

At the end of the discussion Prime Minister Netanyahu said: “The State of Israel is prepared in order to bar the possible entry of people with Ebola, as part of our effort to defend our borders against illegal migrants and terrorism. This is a global plague and we are cooperating with other countries in addition to guarding our borders; we are taking a series of steps to isolate those who are ill, if they arrive, and treat them, of course, in our healthcare system.
We hope that this will not be necessary but we are prepared for any eventuality.”

Ben-Gurion International Airport Director Shmuel Zakai said: “We are beginning a very extensive deployment at all border crossings in order to locate and prevent the entry of travelers carrying the Ebola virus.”

Israel Health Ministry Director General Prof. Arnon Afek said: “The healthcare system is monitoring the Ebola issue and is in contact with medical experts around the world. We are improving the preparedness of the healthcare system in order to be able to deal with any people stricken with Ebola should they arrive in Israel.”

Israeli and Palestinian Authority officials met yesterday to coordinate their strategy for handling the Ebola crisis.
Gen. Yoav Mordechai, coordinator for government activities in the territories, conducted the discussion as part of the meeting of the Joint Civil Affairs Coordination and Cooperation Committee.

Officials from Israel’s Health Ministry, Palestinian Authority officials from the West Bank and Gaza and the PA’s representative from the World Health Organization attended the meeting. The officials agreed to continue to cooperate in additional meetings on the Ebola epidemic.

Private citizens are currently coordinating with the Israel government to develop a global Ebola Blood Registry.

This registry will match Ebola survivors with Ebola victims through an effective, global registry open to all respectable health care organizations. The blood of an Ebola survivor should carry antibodies of the virus. By giving a current Ebola patient an injection of a compatible amount of blood plasma from someone who recovered from the disease, those antibodies could help the patient fight the virus.
Israel’s medical community is performing ground breaking work in the fight against Ebola and is preparing to send three mobile emergency clinics to Africa.

The Israel Foreign Ministry’s Mashav department, which is the Agency for International Development Cooperation, has decided to increase Israel’s contribution to the international effort to prevent the spread of the epidemic.

Mashav announced the decision in response to requests by UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon, the World Health Organization, many governments and Israeli and international aid organizations. The clinics, which were manufactured here, were built in accordance with the WHO’s standards and guidelines for the treatment of Ebola. A staff of medical experts to be attached to each clinic is to train local medical staffers in its operation and equipment. In addition, staff training is to focus on preventing the spread of the disease and raising awareness among populations with high potential for infection.

An Israeli team has already been sent to Cameroon, where it was favorably received by the local authorities.

The Israel Foreign Ministry has sent emergency equipment to the government of Sierra Leone, and in recent weeks, it shipped personal protection equipment to teams of the African Union.
Israel is a popular destination for Christian pilgrims from Africa, and approximately 43,000 African tourists (including North Africa) visited Israel since the beginning of 2014, according to the Israeli Ministry of Tourism.

The World Health Organization said on Friday that as of October 8, 4,033 people have died of Ebola out of a total of 8,399 registered cases in seven countries. The last toll put the figures at 3,865 dead from 8,033 cases.
The 2014 Ebola epidemic is the largest in history, affecting multiple countries in West Africa. As of October 3, there have been 7,492 reported cases of Ebola in West Africa and 3,439 deaths.  The Democratic Republic of the Congo, in Central Africa, has also reported cases of Ebola. These cases are not related to the ongoing outbreak of Ebola in West Africa.

The West Africa outbreak was first detected last spring and confirmed by the World Health Organization. Fruit bats are believed to be the natural hosts of Ebola virus. The virus is transmitted from wildlife to people through contact with infected fruit bats, or through intermediate hosts, such as monkeys, apes, or pigs that have themselves become infected through contact with bat saliva or feces.

People may then become infected through contact with infected animals, either in the process of slaughtering or through consumption of blood, milk, or raw or undercooked meat.

The Ebola virus is then passed from person to person through direct contact with the blood, secretions or other bodily fluids of infected persons, or from contact with contaminated needles or other equipment in the environment.
