Islamic terrorism claimed the life of Yair Mordechai this morning

Jerusalem----October 7......A Palestinian terrorist suicide bomber killed an alert Israeli security man this morning.
Yair Mordechai, 43, from Kibbutz Shluchot, was murdered near the entrance gate of the Jordan Valley kibbutz. Mordechai's professionalism and alertness most likely averted a greater act of terrorism and carnage from taking place in a densely populated area.

Mordechai is survived by a wife and five children. He will be buried this afternoon on the kibbutz at 15:45, Army Radio reports.

Police said the Palestinian terrorist carried a 105 kg explosive charge.

Mordechai was driving a kibbutz car as he pulled up alongside the Palestinian to check his identity, according to eyewitnesses. As Mordechai was questioning the suspect, the Palestinian detonated the charge he was carrying, killing both Mordechai and the suicide bomber instantly, police said. The blast to Mordechai's car was so severe that initial reports from the scene stated that it was a car bomb that had exploded.

No group has taken responsibility for the attack.

This terror attack comes despite a call by the Palestinian Authority and the Fatah Central Council warning all Palestinian factions to abide by PA Chairman Yasser Arafat's cease-fire order or face the consequences, Palestinian officials said.

The call came after the PLO leadership, Fatah's central council, and the PA cabinet decided to order Palestinian militants from all factions to stop carrying out terror attacks.
